When a child is diagnosed with cancer, the entire family is affected—including siblings. While parents focus on medical treatments and caregiving, siblings often experience a range of emotions, from confusion and worry to loneliness. It’s essential to support them through this challenging time, helping them feel seen, heard, and included. Fortunately, several programs in Ontario and across Canada offer specialized support for siblings of children with cancer.

1. Campfire Circle – Support Groups & Sibling Camp

Campfire Circle provides dedicated programs for siblings of children with cancer. Their Support Groups offer a safe space for siblings to share their feelings and connect with others who understand their experience. Additionally, Sibling Camp gives them a chance to enjoy a fun-filled camp experience where they can bond with peers, participate in exciting activities, and take a break from the challenges at home.

2. Upopolis Island – Online Support for Siblings

Tags: Sibling Support, Canada-wide

Upopolis Island is a secure online platform designed to support siblings of children facing medical challenges. Through this program, siblings can connect with others in similar situations, access educational resources, and receive emotional support. This platform is available through Child Life teams at hospitals, so be sure to ask your healthcare provider for access.

Why Sibling Support Matters

Siblings of children with cancer often take on new roles and responsibilities while navigating their own emotions. Programs like Campfire Circle and Upopolis Island provide them with opportunities to express themselves, build friendships, and feel supported throughout their family’s cancer journey.

If your child has participated in any of these programs, we’d love to hear your story. Share your experience in the comments below and help other families find the support they need.
