Finding Strength in Community
Caring for a child with cancer is an emotional and overwhelming journey, and no parent or caregiver should have to navigate it alone. Support groups provide a vital space for parents to share their experiences, receive emotional support, and connect with others who truly understand. Here are two organizations in Ontario and across Canada offering essential resources for parents and caregivers.

1. Ontario Parents Advocating for Children with Cancer (OPACC) – Support Groups

Support Groups in Hamilton, Kitchener-Waterloo, and Niagara Falls, as well as drop-in sessions at SickKids Hospital in Toronto. These meetings provide a welcoming environment where parents and caregivers can openly share their concerns, seek advice, and find comfort in a community of people facing similar challenges.
2. Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada – Caregiver Support

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada offers specialized Caregiver Support Programs for those looking after children with blood cancers. These programs include online and in-person peer support groups, as well as resources to help caregivers manage the emotional, physical, and financial challenges that come with their role.
The Importance of Support for Caregivers
Taking care of a child with cancer can be isolating, but connecting with a support network can make a world of difference. Whether through in-person meetings or online communities, these groups provide encouragement, shared wisdom, and a reminder that no parent has to face this journey alone.
If you’ve attended a support group or found comfort in a caregiver community, we’d love to hear your experience. Share your story in the comments below to help others find the support they need.
